What is it?

Let us break down what privatization of education.  We will start with the term privatization, “which typically refers to shifting the delivery of services performed by public employees to private businesses” (National Education Association).  Schools will enter in to contracts with private companies for particular services commonly know as outsourcing. The tasks that these companies preform are considered not part of the core education function but as tangential services. “There has been no shortage of private companies actively seeking to perform education support functions, particularly in transportation, maintenance, custodial, and food services (National Education Association).” This is not only limited to grade level education but secondary as well were outsourcing is at a greater degree.

What else can take affect is the education industry, which is “composed of private companies that take over administrative and teaching functions for entire schools or even school districts (National Education Association).”  This is more of the problem when a company has the right to decide what education is.

Through these corporate involvement either through services or complete control over a school is the rise in commercialism in public schools.  There are a lot of  sales, advertising, and market research activities through out these schools.

“The voucher movement, which threatens to drain resources from public schools to subsidize private schools (National Education Association).”  This is a growing concern.

In a nut shell that is what privatization of education is.
